What is TENCEL™ Fabric?

Discover what TENCEL™ is and why it's such a popular choice for those with sensitive or eczema-prone skin.

Are you dealing with itchy eczema? This chronic condition affects approximately 10-20% of the world population. It’s characterized by red, dry, and scaly patches of skin.

Thanks to a damaged skin barrier that has trouble retaining moisture, those with eczema have extra sensitive skin that may be easily triggered by common household objects, certain foods, and even the fabric of the clothes you wear.

In this post, we’ll discuss TENCEL™, an eco-friendly fabric that’s a great choice for people with eczema, psoriasis, or sensitive skin.

What is TENCEL™?

TENCEL™ is a natural fiber that’s made from renewable wood pulp. The TENCEL™ used in our Remedywear™ fabric is sourced from European beech trees. Its fibers are easily blended with a variety of textile fibers, such as cotton, polyester, wool, and silk, to enhance their softness.

TENCEL™ for Eczema

TENCEL™ is renowned for its softness, gentleness, and natural comfort. That’s part of the reason why it’s a number one choice for those with eczema or sensitive skin.

It also has the ability to hold water which makes it a great option for wet wrapping. In addition, TENCEL™ is naturally itch suppressing. With itch being one of the most burdensome symptoms of eczema, it’s no wonder why this fabric is such a popular choice.

Finally, TENCEL helps to inhibit the growth of bacteria. This is useful because if relentless scratching causes the skin to crack or bleed, TENCEL’s antibacterial properties can help reduce the risk of infection.

TENCEL™ vs Cotton

Both TENCEL™ and cotton are known for being soothing and soft fabrics for those with sensitive skin. However, TENCEL™ has the ability to hold water. In fact, compared to cotton, TENCEL™ holds 50% more moisture and stays softer when wet. This makes TENCEL™ the ideal fabric for wet wrapping.

TENCEL™ vs Bamboo

Like TENCEL™, bamboo is another popular fabric choice because of its softness and moisture-wicking properties.  However, while bamboo has a higher moisture absorbency than cotton, it is still not as efficient as TENCEL™. Both fabrics are hypoallergenic, anti-bacterial, and silky-smooth.
